Every fall, Americans go pumpkin crazy! Pumpkin pie spice in muffins, pancakes, porridge, and of course the grandfather of them all, the PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE!!
You could spend upwards of $5 on official pumpkin pie spice mix, or, you could bask in the glories of self-satisfaction and make it yourself.

THE MIX
- cinnamon
- ginger
- nutmeg
- 1ground cloves
- mild New Mexico red chile powder (I like Loma Vista because of the consistent flavor and price-point.)
- cayenne (exclude this if you don’t want a spicy burn in the back of your throat)
Mix it all together and put it in an airtight container so is keeps for the next time you need some serious autumn vibes.
Now any recipe that calls for “pumpkin spice” will be YOUR pumpkin spice!
Enjoy!
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS PUMPKIN PIE SPICE
How long can I store this?
Like most spices, a year is the shelf life. However, for optimum freshness, I’d suggest using it within 6 months.
I don’t like heat- how can I tone down the spice?
If you’re not a huge fan of heat, remove the cayenne from the recipe. If that’s still too strong for you, cut the ginger in half.
